The IIA Awards for Excellence in Architecture are conferred annually to encourage, acknowledge, appreciate and honor the significant contributions of member professionals, representing five broad areas of Architecture, namely Residential, Public, Interiors, Landscape Design and Research.

The coverage within each category is as follows:
 
RESIDENTIAL CATEGORY
Single and Multi-Family Dwellings - including shelters, houses, apartment blocks and housing complexes.
 
PUBLIC CATEGORY
Buildings  or Complexes - including buildings, centers / complexes for government, public sector, or private organizations - for administrative, commercial, religious, institutional, social, cultural, sports, educational and like purposes.
 
INTERIORS CATEGORY
Includes Interior Design projects for private or public use.
 
LANDSCAPE-DESIGN CATEGORY
Open spaces serving any kind of public or private use, which may or may not fall under the context of an Architectural project.
 
RESEARCH CATEGORY

Outstanding research and/or inbuilt studies/projects.
